Institutional API Gateway
Service exposure for public institutions through APIs and service-oriented architecture, grounded in an institutional gateway for a judicial organization.
Public institutions rarely expose a single system. They expose a landscape of internal applications, external agencies and citizen-facing services that have to interoperate without sharing the same stack.
An institutional API gateway is the place where that exposure is designed: APIs as the integration contract, a service-oriented edge, and a way to keep internal systems from becoming the public interface.
This note is grounded in work on an institutional API Gateway for the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the City of Buenos Aires, and in a broader practice of designing APIs and service-oriented architectures for judicial and public-sector platforms.
The gateway is an architecture decision about how institutions connect — not a product dropped in front of an unmanaged estate.
